I set-up Yorkshire Dales Flyfishing in 2004, initially as an England International, APGAI qualified, flyfishing guide and instructor. Quite soon, the anglers that I was guiding and teaching were asking where they could buy the flies that I was tying onto their leaders. In those days, before competition fly fishing became as common as it is today, the type of flies you see on this website weren't commercially available, so I began offering them for sale to my clients. Things moved on quickly and I soon added them to my website to sell to all, and the rest, as they say, is history.
After 15 years of guiding I was beginning to lose the passion for it, probably a victim of my own success. I was simply too busy and it had become just a job. The passion was gone and I wanted to go out with my reputation intact, so in 2019 I took the difficult decision to stop guiding. It had been good while it lasted but it was time to move on. I decided to concentrate on selling flies, because that side of the business was growing year on year and I was getting more and more requests to expand into new areas. By stopping guiding I could now concentrate on the fly shop and extend my range into new areas, e.g. saltwater flies, pike flies and bespoke tied flies.
I still fish extensively at home and abroad. My passion for and love of flyfishing is as strong as ever and I continue to be part of the Hardy Pro Team, helping to promote a brand that I firmly believe is one of the world's best.
