2016 will be the fifth consecutive year that I have escorted a small group of anglers to Slovenia. We stay at Tilnik Farm in the beautiful Idrijca Valley
as guests of Kate and Brett Bedford. Full board is included and the
trip is for a maximum of 3 anglers fishing for Brown
Trout, Marble Trout, Rainbow Trout and Grayling. The majority of the
areas we fish contain only wild fish, though some areas have stocked
Escorted by myself and transported by Brett, we have
access to fishing the Idrijca, Soča, Bača, Tolminka and Trebuščica
rivers and their many tributaries. Recent trip have seen us venture further to fish other rivers.
The flight from the UK is short, typically under 2 hours. We will
be met by our hosts and transported to Tilnik Farm, a journey of just
one to two hours (depending on airport used) through magnificent mountains. Once at the farm we can unpack and unwind with locally
produced wine, beer and nibbles, and of course plenty of fishy chat,
We then spend the following days fly fishing on the local rivers before heading
back to the airport on the final day. The return trip usually (depending on flight times) gives us plenty of time to visit and stroll around some old Slovenian towns
and have lunch en-route.
The whole area is stunningly beautiful
with some excellent fishing, the indigenous Marble Trout add greatly
to the interest. There is a vast amount of fishing to explore in
what is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe.
Flyfishing in Slovenia is with single fly only (national rule) with a mix of dry fly
nymph fishing. Streamer fishing can also be very effective in some of
the deeper pools. If you haven't tried this style of fishing before I
would urge you to have a go because it can be very exciting with
thumping takes and the chance of a big Marble Trout! There are
also opportunities to try out tenkara
fishing and to fine tune your techniques.
2016 Trip Dates:
17th to 24th September (7 nts) - fully booked*
24th to 30th September (6 nts) - fully booked*
*Other dates still available - book direct with Kate & Brett
Slovenia 2016 Costs
|Accommodation with full board* and transport, including airport transfers
Fishing permits: 60€ per day (2015 prices)
*We usually eat out at a local restaurant on the 4th evening,
this will need to be paid for separately.
Wine is included with evening meals as is tea, coffee, soft drinks, etc. Other drinks will need to be paid for individually but we normally stop at a supermarket en-route so you can buy your own 'tipple'.
Lunch will either be a packed lunch (provided) or a restaurant stop which is payable by the individual.
To keep the costs down we will be guided by
Brett, our host from Tilnik Farm. Brett isn't a professional
guide but he knows the rivers and fishing spots well. He will be
there to transport us to the fishing daily, offer advice and act
as a translator when talking to locals. I will be fishing myself
but there to advise and help as much as required. Using a local
professional guide would make the trip too expensive to be
viable, though you could hire a guide personally if you wanted
to at 160€ per day.
